There is a specific dynamic that emerges when one encounters another who is different. Perceived privilege and power inform the outcome of these encounters- too often they result in acts of oppression. This workshop is an opportunity for how the power dynamics effect Interpreters of Color seeking to explore the systemic nature of Power, Privilege and Oppression examining both foregrounding and residual social constructions.  This workshop is designed to explore ways for Interpreters (of color) to engage in meaningful, exchange with like colleagues to develop strategies for identifying power dynamics, for engaging in productive dialog about difference, encouraging change and mitigating microaggression, and fostering growth. Interpreters will also learn how to appreciate the work of Interpreters of Color and the cultural power, privilege, and oppressive ramifications that comes with it. This workshop is a mixture of presenting, sharing, and opportunities to ask open-discussion throughout the webinar.
