This interactive lab is designed to empower entry-level and novice BIPOC interpreters by providing hands-on training and real-world scenarios. Participants will engage in role-playing exercises, receive feedback from experienced interpreters, and explore cultural nuances that influence interpretation. This supportive environment fosters confidence and skill development, helping participants become familiar with how to bridge language barriers and connections with BIPOC Interpreters and communities.

Target Audience: Interpreters, Novice Interpreters, Interpreting Students with Some Content Knowledge Level

Educational Objectives:

1. Understanding of Interpreting Modes: Participants will be able to define and differentiate at least four interpreting modes that impact BIPOC Interpreters (e.g., simultaneous, consecutive, sight translation, and community interpreting) and describe contexts in which each is most effectively applied.

2. Professional Networking: Participants will develop a professional network by outlining how to connect with at least three mentors or industry professionals during the lab, creating a plan for future engagement and collaboration with other BIPOC interpreting professionals.

3. Navigating the Interpreting Landscape: Participants will develop a personalized action plan outlining steps to navigate the interpreting profession as a BIPOC individual, including strategies for overcoming common challenges and leveraging available resources for BIPOC Interpreters.
