PPO Studies Course: Cracking the Shell of Whiteness

Begins September 27, 2021

“If you are willing to dare to look white supremacy right in the eye and see yourself reflected back, you are going to become better equipped to dismantle it within yourself and within your communities.”

~Layla F. Saad, Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor

This four-week curriculum was developed to create a space for white people interested in being effective allies with people of color in the work of dismantling racism and undoing white privilege. This is a process designed to support people wherever they are on their journey. While this process is designed for white people to go through this experience with other white people, it does not mean that white people should act on their own in doing the work of transforming society. This time of preparation is to empower people to be more effective allies in partnerships across racial lines.

Educational Objectives for Cracking the Shell of Whiteness:

  1. Participants will define the terms: White Identity, White Privilege, Racial Identity, Oppression, POC, and Worldview.
  2. Participants will list 3 examples of how White Privilege is used in a Dominant Culture
  3. Participants will describe at least one example of how racial identity can impact their work with DPOC.
  4. Participants will discuss ways for becoming effective allies when working with DPOC and complete a plan of action worksheet.
